Nike made it official today by announcing the KD8. I am excited for this shoe. When the images first leaked, there were many critics… “this looks like the air max 2015″… “downgrade”… “where’s the strap?” But for me, this seems to fit all of my wants in a hoop shoe… low cut, light weight, flexible, great cushioning, and traction. I also am liking the possibilities with the Flyweave upper. Here is to a successful line Nike and KD!!
Here are the highlights from the press release:
- Flyweave technology upper – first Nike basketball shoe to use it.Woven textile that can be designed in high resolution, down to the pixel.
- Articulated full-length Nike Zoom Air unit – first time there are notches strategically placed in the forefoot and heel to flex with the foot’s movement.
- Flywire in the forefoot, locks you in.
- Sabertooth Tiger tattoo on KD’s leg was a source of inspiration. Predatory instincts, ferocity and prehistoric old soul… what? But the heel design was designed to mimic a sabertooth’s fangs.
- First release will be the “July 4th” colorway dropping on June 27th… in limited quantities… you know what that means. The upper will contain firework inspired patterns.
- The second colorway will be the red one from the images called, “V8”. Inspired by Durant’s Camaro he had customized in 2010.
In case you aren’t familiar with the “What The…” line from Nike, they are an attempt to mash-up and capture many of the best moments and various colorways for a particular signature model. This year the WTKD7 has been inspired from 18 different releases (wow… just think about that… 18 colorways). I know not everyone is a fan of this wild release but I enjoy them as a way to remember many of the shoes with one model. See if you can spot the different colorways or you can always read the Nike article linked below to see which ones made the cut.
New KD7 What The shoe available June 20 combines various colors, patterns, graphics and technical details of popular KD7 colorways into a modern mashup.
I suspected a USA colorway but wasn’t sure it would fit in with the WTKD7 coming and the KD8 red colorway. I am a huge fan of most USA colorways and I’m glad to see this one coming to light. We need to see better shots of it first though before I can decide cop/drop.
INike, your products are not safe with anybody, man…even retail employees are leaking stuff. I guess that’s good for those that can’t wait to see what’s next. This USA colorway of the upcoming Nike KD 8 is scheduled to release on June 27 and looks to sport a firework upper for the 4th of July.

The first images of the KD7 “What The…” were leaked tonight. For those of you who aren’t familiar, the “What The…” series mashes up the different colorways from throughout the line into one pair. I can see the Global Games, Aunt Pearls, Christmas, All-star, etc. They can look off-the-wall but that is what you will get with this type of design. My first impressions are that this is better than the WTKD6. Can’t wait to see more images.
There have been plenty of ‘What The’ moments this year regarding KD and his 7th signature sneaker, and to finish things off Nike plans on releasing the KD 7 in what is now a traditional colorway. Whether you love them or hate them, these take a little bit of every KD 7 release and blends them
First leaked images of the KD 8. If true, I’m liking the flyknit, not as much foamposite, don’t mind the lack of the strap, low profile… not to mention the red colorway… very nice. Rumored to be releasing in July.
The flyknit upper is rumored to be called “Fly Weave” which does have a different look than we have seen on the Kobe 9 or Kobe 10 Elite. The shoe will have a full Zoom Air cushioned sole which was only in the heel on the KD7. The official colorway is “Bright Crimson/White-Black” and is set for release on July 11th at $180. However, KD likes to have a USA colorway so perhaps we will see another colorway? But the WTKD7 is rumored to be at the end of June so probably isn’t likely to see another KD8 release in between these two.
Images of Kevin Durant’s latest signature model, the Nike KD 8, have surfaced.
