Seriously, did we walk into the marketing department and say hey we want a new brand but we really liked what we had 20 years ago.  Any chance we could use that but change it from purple to navy blue so that all of our fans who haven’t bought merchandise in the last 20 years can’t just break out the old stuff and call it good?  I got news for you, that’s not retro, that’s lazy.  Its like they had someone design their new image from the Chris Creamer message board…not that there is anything wrong with that…

To make matters worse, if you can (thanks B-Rob), they are keeping the “Mountain” logo as a secondary logo and updating it with the new colors (which is now the 4th different color variation on the same logo, aka LAME!!!) and let me just say it looks horrible.  I couldn’t find a good picture of this, probably because nobody wants to look at it but here it is in all of its navy blue, green and yellow glory on a new T-Shirt…

Apparently EA and Doritos have teamed up to allow the fans to decide who should be the cover athlete of Madden 11 this fall. Click on the link below and you can vote for Jared Allen, Drew Brees or Reggie Wayne. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of defensive players on my Madden cover and I’m not sure Reggie Wayne deserves it over Brees who has had a great year. Then again, I’m not sure I want the curse to be on Brees seeing as how I won’t Fantasy Football with him heading up my squad this season. Decisions, decisions…

It was hard not to use the “MVPeyton” headline again but by now even the slowest among us has thought up that witty title (I think I used it when he won back in 2008).  All kidding aside the 4th MVP is something special.  Peyton has now won more MVP awards then anyone else in NFL history.  So where do you put him now along side the alltime great QB’s in the NFL?  If (ahem “when” the Seven good sportsfan year is still in effect until the Colts loose) he wins another SuperBowl this year and has a few more good years in him he has to be considered one of the top two or three QB’s ever right?

Grats Peyton, and I’m not just saying that cause I got a man crush on you or anything…

Okay its a few days late, I’d like to say that its late because I have spent the last three days celebrating the New York Yankees 2009 World Championship (thats 27 for those of you scoring at home) but the reality is that the same night our fearless heroes brought championship home to the bronx I came down with a nasty case of the flu (no I don’t think its full blown swine flu but I may go as far as calling it Piglet) that I am still battling.

Anywho a day or three late and a dollar (or a few hundred million for the Yankees) short but I just wanted to congratulate them on a job well done and a relief to finally win again after our little dry spell.  27 championships, thats basically 25% of the championships since 1900.  1 in 4 people, does it just totally suck to be a fan of any other team?

And if you are keeping track, here is another reminder of how my 2009 sports fandom has gone:

NCAA Mens Basketball – UNC Tarheels National Champions

NBA – LA Lakers World Champions

MLB – NY Yankees World Champions

NFL – Indianapolis Colts 8-0….??? Lets just say if your a betting man put some money on the Colts baby!  (Seven and dropping can not be held responsible for any monetary losses or otherwise from following my advice)

(*you’ll notice no NCAA football team listed.  My two favorite teams aren’t exactly lighting the world on fire and originally I thought that my mojo wasn’t going to work for everything this year however I realized that my mojo doesn’t apply to fake sports that don’t crown a real champion with a playoff.)

Rip City is a nickname that the Portland team was given way back in the day by Bill Schonely, and has become a way to tie the team and its fans together over the years. To honor the memory of not only the players that have come before this team, but the fans that have stuck with the city for all of these years, the Rip City jerseys were born. The first unveiling of the Rip City jerseys actually came during a pre-season game against the Suns, but on Sunday night it marked the first regular season game where they were worn. The Rip City jerseys may look a bit odd on Sports Center without an explanation, but they definitely will hold special meaning for fans.
