Blazers Introduce ‘Rip City’ Uniforms
The new Rip City jersey is what the Blazers wore last night in order to pay homage to their 40th anniversary as a professional team. This is the first of two nights that the Trailblazers will wear the Rip City jerseys. The next time that they plan on wearing them is not until April 14th, 2010.
Rip City is a nickname that the Portland team was given way back in the day by Bill Schonely, and has become a way to tie the team and its fans together over the years. To honor the memory of not only the players that have come before this team, but the fans that have stuck with the city for all of these years, the Rip City jerseys were born. The first unveiling of the Rip City jerseys actually came during a pre-season game against the Suns, but on Sunday night it marked the first regular season game where they were worn. The Rip City jerseys may look a bit odd on Sports Center without an explanation, but they definitely will hold special meaning for fans.
