Colts want a new pony

Share

This news is a little old but the Colts announced that they want a new secondary logo to compliment the horseshoe.  They opened up the selection process to the public which I think is very exciting and a good move by the Colts. They have chosen five finalists and then fans will vote for the winner at http://www.colts.com/sub.cfm?page=2008_designahorse.  In my opinion, I don’t believe any of the five finalists have a professional feel.  They were supposed to unveil the winner today but they extended the voting until May 2nd.

The grand prize includes two lower level season tickets plus $1,000.  Not bad indeed.

Breaking the Jinx?

Share

EA revealed the new Madden 09 coverboy today and it is none other than “retired” QB, Brett Favre.  Is this move good or bad for EA?  Well, it is good from the point of view because the notorious Madden Jinx certainly can’t rear it’s ugly head if the player isn’t playing right?  However, there are those that still believe that Brett might return to the game.  How would EA feel about that if Brett returns to the league in a different uniform?  Would they change the cover?  Release a limited edition update?  Stay tuned…

In regards to the game itself this is Madden’s 20th anniversary so you would expect something special from EA.  They are claiming that the game will feature “adaptable gameplay, online enhancements, and a broadcast style presentation delivering an authentic NFL experience.”  So what does that mean?  There are supposed to be 85 new features and enhancements, including a new Virtual Trainer tutorial mode.  This mode teaches gamers simple concepts about playing football and how to use the controls in the drills.  The game engine also continually assesses the player’s performance and will adapt a custom experience to every type of gamer.  The game will also feature a network-inspired broadcast presentation featuring the likes of Cris Collinsworth.  In addition, numerous graphical enhancements have been made, including realistic weather and grass, sleeker player models and exterior stadium views.  Yawwn… doesn’t sound that much better than last year but there is one thing I am interested in seeing… the enhanced online environment.  Madden 09 will have the ability to create online leagues featuring in-depth stat tracking, player trades and a flexible scheduling option.

Hansbrough returns; Ellington, Lawson declare for NBA draft

Share

Thank you Tyler!  Today Tyler Hansbrough announced he would return for his final season and try one last time to win the championship.  However, he will probably have to do that without Lawson and Ellington as they have declared for the NBA draft but will not hire an agent.  This is quickly becoming the “in” thing to do but I don’t forsee too many of these players returning, even Ty and Wayne.  I would love it if they do but I will never fault a player for leaving early to get that big payday.

“I love my collegiate experience and want to finish my four years here, then move on to my next dream of playing in the NBA,” Hansbrough said in a statement. “I am very relieved that this decision is behind us and I can concentrate on my academic work and improving my game for next season.”

“I’m not dying to leave here, but playing in the NBA is another dream I have,” Ellington said.

Coach Roy Williams said he contacted more teams than ever before — he put the number at 18 by the end of last week — to find out about where the trio would be picked.

“I want what is best for each individual and each individual player is different and has different factors to consider,” Williams said. “We will continue to help Ty and Wayne with the draft process and give them all the support they need in making any future decisions related to staying in the draft or returning to Carolina.”

That really hurts to lose like that.  I am still in unbelief about how this game unfolded.  I mean regardless of what happened in the first half, the Heels were only down by 5 with 9 minutes to go!  I honestly believed that they were going to win it when they made that run but then all of a sudden the defense was gone and KU had their way underneath… on both sides.  I do love these Heels though and they gave us a great year, 36-3, ACC regular season and tournament champs, spoiling senior day for the Dookies, Tyler winning POY awards, Tyler celebrating after the Clemson victory, etc.  In fact, I even got to see them play in person at the Las Vegas Invitational.  Playing in the final four is a treat but this one will hurt for a while.  From what I hear we are getting a great incoming class, Ed Davis (PF), Tyler Zeller(C 7′), and Larry Drew (PG) so who knows, maybe we will keep progressing with this team and win it all next year.  Please Tyler, Ty, Wayne, Danny, PLEASE COME BACK!!!

Go Heels!

Johnny 5 is alive…again

Not really sure what to say about this.  I mean I was a big fan of Short Circuit when it came out back in the day but I was a kid and didn’t know any better.  I’m not exactly sure that 20 years later the world at large is beating down the door for a Short Circuit remake.  And whats the point of doing a “remake” if you hire the writers of the original?  Are they going to say, hey this is the story I really wanted to tell!

On the plus side, now that Steve Guttenberg has been kicked off dancing with the stars hes free and I’m sure Aly Sheedy isn’t doing anything.  Might as well bring the whole cast back.
